The face of this indicator is similar if not identical to the mach indicator seen on the instrument panels of the Avro Vulcan strategic bomber and the Hawker Hunter jet fighter (see photos)

The knob at the top right allowed the navigator to adjust for the desired course relative to the signal received from the radio compass

and the module mounted on the rear appears to provide electronic sensing of the gyro's position for transmission to the autopilot system
