Released on January 11, 1971 shortly after the singer's untimely death at age 27, the release went to #1 on both the Billboard Top 200 Albums and several other territory charts. The album featured classics "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Mercedes Benz". It was produced by Paul A. Rothchild, perhaps best known for producing the first five albums of The Doors, who called working with Joplin "a
