this allows the filter to draw cold air from under the bumper and not hot air from the back of the radiator

Mishimoto radiators are constructed using a 100% brazed aluminium core with robust TIG-welded end tanks

This means the solenoid only has to control airflow through a small passage that is then used to open and close the piston (rather than opening and closing the piston directly)
