"Cernay la Ville" by Eliza Greatorex, Irish-Amer., (1819-1897) Color subterranean groundEtching, ca. 1880, ed. unknown, as published in The American Art Review, 4 1 4 x 6 7 8, signed & titled in the plate, on warm white laid paper, the margins trimmed but ample. A fine landscape darftsman and etcher, in 1869 Greatorex was elected the first woman associate member of the National Academy of Design. The clarity and precision of her etched line reminds one of Lalanne, while the scene and quality of atmosphere remind one of Appian.
